THE THIRD SACRIFICE

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. Corinthians 10:3-5 This inspiration, this conviction of faith is a change in belief that would change the world. The Jesuit order would cover the world becoming extremely influential in both politics and education. For me, an important inspiration comes from the phrase in Acts 17:6, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here too." Yet, we have hardly begun to turn the world upside down. We must separate the wheat from the chaff and distill a belief that is no longer designed for a master slave society, but a belief which will actually help the many brothers and sisters who suffer oppression and indignity. If we hope to believe that God is good them, we must address the very word "good." Before we speak or believe in anything we must define the words we use. Good is much too relative of a word to be used without serious consideration, and if we wish to believe in a "Good God" we must be clear. If you are a criminal your definition of good may be a successful robbery, and if you are a General in a war, it may be killing more people than your opponent. If you are you, maybe "Good" is a nicer car, bigger house, or better-looking partner. It is for this reason that poverty, asceticism and the denial of the flesh is stressed in the Christian message. “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23 Imagine a world where everyone stops consuming, only motivated by a single focus: the consideration of the ultimate good.
