Stress and Religion

When Michael Shermer hears about a new medical cure, fad or folk legend, he’s probably going to ask a few questions. He’s the founding publisher of Skeptic Magazine, which he created in 1992 to help people think more critically about pseudoscience and superstitions – everything from Holocaust denial to belief in Bigfoot. Shermer says we’re hardwired to form beliefs, even when those beliefs don’t make much sense.

Genome project

DNA studies indicate that all modern humans share a common female ancestor who lived in Africa about 140,000 years ago, and all men share a common male ancestor who lived in Africa about 60,000 years ago. These were not the only humans who lived in these eras, and the human genome still contains many genetic traits of their contemporaries. Humanity's most recent common ancestors are identifiable because their lineages have survived by chance in the special pieces of DNA that are passed down the gender lines nearly unaltered from one generation to the next. These ancestors are part of a growing body of fossil and DNA evidence indicating that modern humans arose in sub-Saharan Africa and began migrating, starting about 65,000 years ago, to populate first southern Asia, China, Java, and later Europe. Each of us living today has DNA that contains the story of our ancient ancestors' journeys.

The Breath of God ( St Issa Novel)

from ...http://www.jeffreysmall.com/JeffreySmall.com/Home.html

A murder at the Taj Mahal. A kidnapping in a sacred city. A desperate chase through a cliffside monastery. All in the pursuit of a legend that could link together the great religious faiths of the world.

In 1887, a Russian journalist made an explosive discovery in a remote Himalayan monastery only to be condemned and silenced for the heresy he proposed. His discovery vanished shortly thereafter.

The Modern Monastery

With all the modern tools at our disposal we could build something that would become a social phenomena for good, which provides spiritual well for its members.

What I suggest is that the monastic model  of St Benedict be modified and applied to a new society. Through history monastic orders have had great success. In fact in recent history the United Society of Believers (Shakers) was a great enterprise that gave many people happy Christian lives in common.

The evolution of the Christian community is a very close approximation to the path that Christ has directed us to.

Community was the central theme of Christianity, why do we not apply this principal in earnest?  People working together building  sound economic, ascetic communities dedicated to compassion for our fellow man. A well educated advanced social system loosely patterned by the Rule of St Benedict.

"The new testament declares law to have failed, frees man from its dominion and in its stead preaches the kingdom of grace to be won by faith, love of neighbor and entire sacrifice of self. This is the path or redemption from the evil of the world the spirit of the new testament is undoubtedly asceticism... " Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)
