If we have freewill then it would be represented through our understanding of the past. What gives us cause to change or correct our future is what we believe to be past events. Justice would therefore require a truthful understanding of past events otherwise we are governed by false assumptions. In the event our understanding of history is false, then we can not have freewill, rather we would be governed by a lie.
The devil is in the details... Rather God is in the details
Here is a thought. If God is everything, Time and Matter, then if you want to know God, the how and why of God's relation to man would be best understood through history. For example not only who was Moses but the true detais of his life. Time and Matter as a stream from the big bang to today is the only life we know of. We interact with this God within the small details that make the bigger picture.
It is of value to understand the physics and math of Time and Matter. Yet, from a Religions point of view it would be of greater value to understand and see the relation between Time and Matter(God) and Man.
Imagine for instance standing back, and looking at all known history as God. The relationship of the universe with man. Then imagine looking at a cherished life from birth to death... would it not be the same. To see this person that was born and grew old, the details of their lives would be how we know them.
I suppose that one of the most difficult theological questions we have is that if there is only one God and it is a good being then why is there evil. I belive that the answer to that question is in the details of our human history, of our human nature and how we have related to God.
